Eulogy Samples – a Great Starting Point for Writing and Giving Your Own Eulogy Speech

Eulogy samples can take two useful forms – a) specific phrases and sentences and principles which you can use and apply in any eulogy situation, and b) actual sample eulogies, complete with all the personal information which is unique to each individual.

Firstly, here are some specific ideas you can use for two of the trickiest parts of the eulogy – the beginning and the end…

For the opening words, you may wish to

• thank people for coming
• say how you know the person who has died and what an honour it is for you to be speaking
• remark on what a sad day this is (but perhaps also a day for celebrating a life?)
• say when and where the person was born, etc.

For the closing words, you may wish to

• sum up the person’s main qualities
• say how much they will be missed
• thank people who have helped in recent days or months
• invite people back somewhere to continue sharing their memories
